Safety Data Sheets

Safety Data Sheets

Safety data sheets (SDS), previously known as materials safety data sheets (MSDS), are required documents for communicating information about the properties of materials in the work place. These documents are applicable in both production registrations (e.g. REACH) and for classifying waste streams (e.g. NEMWA).

The promulgated Waste Classification and Management regulations (GN 634) require that all waste streams be classified in accordance with SANS 10234 within 180 days of generation and generators should prepare a SDS for each waste stream.

At Sci-Ba our multi-disciplinary approach and specialists are able to provide a complete service for the preparation of SDS documents in accordance with the United Nations Globally Harmonised System (GHS) for the classification and labelling of chemicals as represented in South Africa by SANS 10234. Materials need to be assessed in three categories including physical, human health and environmental hazards.

Our independent commercial laboratory is able to provide a wide range of required and additional tests in order to characterise material in the preparation of SDS and our team of specialist consultants are able to assist with the management of your waste streams including classification of waste in accordance with National Environmental Management Waste Act (NEMWA) and in characterising waste streams for reuse in other industries (e.g. alternate fuels).
