Aggregate Analysis

Aggregates can include sand, gravel, crushed rock, slag, fly ash, recycled concrete and geosynthetic materials that are used in the construction industry. Quality must meet the legal requirements for a given project and is assessed by independent laboratories.

Sci-Ba analyses various aggregates using national and international standard methods as required (e.g. ISO, ASTM, SABS, BS EN etc) to meet your needs. Routine aggregate analyses include: -

  • Bulk density
  • Particle density
  • Specific Gravity & Absorption of Coarse Aggregate
  • Specific Gravity & Absorption of Fine Aggregate
  • Sieve analysis (wet and dry)
  • Particle size distribution (PSD)
  • Material Finer Than a #200 Sieve
  • Clay and silt sized fractions
  • Petrographic examination
  • Potential Alkali Reactivity of Aggregates
  • Particle shape
  • Sulfate Soundness
  • Friable Particles
  • Flakiness index
  • Angularity number
  • Crushing value
  • Colour
  • Sugar content
  • Organic impurities

Where standard methods have not been developed, Sci-Ba is capable of undertaking R&D and consultative work to provide non-standard method testing and investigations for aggregate analysis.
